THE
STORY:
We followed up our NYC debut with a trek up to Rhode Island
to perform at Captain Nick's Rock & Roll Bar as part
of the Block Island Music Festival. We were selected to
play the plum Saturday night at midnight slot & honestly,
I had no idea what to expect. I'd never been to Rhode Island,
no less Block Island (about an hour boat ride off the mainland),
& to make matters worse, it was about 55 degrees &
raining when we left. I was going thru some personal shit
& was an emotional wreck, but I was almost thankful
for the distraction of having to go up & play this show.
I was honestly blown away by the organization involved once
we got up there - the organizers took care of our travel
arrangements, our gear, our lodging - extremely accommodating.
Boon & I snuck a peek at the early artists & were
a bit intimated by the fact that most of them involved acoustic
guitars, upright bass, and/or banjos. How would these people
react to an act like Q*Ball??
We got our answer at midnight, when Boon warmed up the crowd
with a 15-minute DJ set - the crowd went nuts. Dancing,
drinking, cheering - it was awesome. When we finally all
got on stage to perform "Edith," girls were coming
up on stage & dancing with us - it was a great time.
Unfortunately, it was cut short due to the curfew laws up
there, so we had to end about 2 songs short of a full set.
We literally closed the place down. We met some interesting
peeps, hung out at some kid's house & spun records all
night, & drove home to the harsh reality of NYC living
the next day.
