THE
STORY:
Sometimes you make a great thing out of a not-so-great situation.
This was one of my favorite shows, in spite of the fact
that it was poorly promoted by Six Flags, we had no stage
(we set up on the concrete by the wave pool), & Rocky
left his snare drum stand home & had to trek to some
music store in the middle of nowhere to get another one,
effectively foiling our soundcheck.
The irony of this show was that we had more fans before
we played a note than after we started. Bass Guy headed
for the water slides & BFoot, Boon, & I pretty much
jammed by the wave pool for about an hour until Rocky got
back. Z100 radio set up a broadcast tent right next to us
& by the time we started our real set, all my stickers
& cards were gone, and we got a ton of names for the
mailing list. Apparently, most of the crowd thought our
little jam was part of the entertainment - and I suppose
it was.
When we finally started, the sun was going down on a beautiful
summer night & a loyal crowd of about 100 stuck around
to watch us. We signed autographs, sold lollipops &
really had a grand ol' time when all was said & done.
